The Hero Foundation is happy to help Michigan families impacted by cancer of all types. That said, multiple members of the Hero Foundation family have been impacted by this horrible disease, so this form of cancer really hits close to home. You can learn a bit about one of these stories in the video below.
What is pancreatic cancer?
Pancreatic cancer occurs when abnormal cells within the pancreas grow out of control and turn into a tumor. Inside your abdomen, the pancreas sits between the stomach and the front of the spine and exists to aid in regulating blood sugar and digestion.
Beware of the symptoms
One of the reasons pancreatic cancer is so deadly is that the early symptoms are subtle and sometimes come and go. Here are some common symptoms to be aware of:
- Abdominal and mid-back pain
- Unexplained weight loss
- Loss of appetite
- Blood clots
- Fatigue
- Yellow skin or eyes
- Change in stool
- New-onset diabetes
- Digestive problems
- Loss of appetite
- Mood Change or depression
So what is World Pancreatic Cancer Day?
World Pancreatic Cancer Day was brought about by the World Pancreatic Cancer Coalition. This group pulled together organizations from more than 30 countries with three main goals in mind:
- Bring greater attention to pancreatic cancer
- Raise awareness of the disease and its symptoms
- Create better outcomes for this deadly disease
